Frankfurt/Main, 18th November 2014: The Street Shark 3.0 joint project, in which a modified BMW Z4 bonnet and the roof module are fitted with a sharkskin surface, is presented at EuroMold 2014. The improvement in air resistance of the surface texture that was replicated from a real shark is impressive. The Street Shark will be on display at EuroMold at the EschmannStahl stand (J122) in Hall 8.0.

The new Street Shark 3.0 version exhibited here is a further development of the aerodynamic properties and weight optimisation of the hood. Recent findings from wind tunnel tests have also been incorporated, which led to an increase in the scaling by 20% compared to the previous version, with the effect that the flow resistance was reduced even more and the aerodynamics optimised. In addition to its vehicle tuning functionality, this innovative product offers exciting application possibilities in a variety of industries, for example, in the wind energy or sports and leisure industries. The aerodynamic advantages that the technology offers, makes its application in the railway and aviation sectors as well as in boat building a natural extension of its properties; such projects are already in the planning stage. Moreover, besides the sharkskin, other bionic surface structures are also conceivable, such as stain-resistant or self-healing surfaces, or other kinds of patterns such as a wooden look.

The development of the Street Shark 3.0 is a collaborative project of Eschmann-Textures (specialist for surface design), the Frimo Group (plant and machinery specialists), Huntsman, ISL (Berlac Group), Rühl, C4C and DStyle, who is responsible for the new design that is inspired by motorsport.

In May this year the project has received the prestigious JEC Innovation Award in the Automotive Category. As the world’s largest organisation for the entire composites industry, the JEC Group has been awarding companies for innovative projects in the context of its Innovation Award Programme since 1998.
