In 2013, Algeria imported packaging machines worth 301.3 million US Dollars, an increase of 57.5 percent. No other African country imported more. At the same time, imports for printing and paper technology rose to 111.5 million US Dollars, an increase of 16.6 percent. Due to this extraordinary growth dynamics and at the express request of the exhibitors, Algeria“s international trade show for printing, paper and packaging technology printpack alger will be held annually from 2015 on. This B2B event with a clear focus on valuable business contacts is organised by fairtrade and their German-Algerian team. The Palais des Expositions – SAFEX in Algiers opens its gates for exhibitors and trade visitors from 23 to 25 February 2015.

For several years, the Algerian government has been successfully implementing a multi-billion dollar investment program to build a stand-alone industry. The printing and packaging sector represents one of the major growth industries of the country.

Money from the oil and gas business is abundant. According to GTAI-Germany Trade & Invest, the country currently has foreign exchange reserves of more than 200 billion US Dollars and exports oil and gas worth 65 billion US Dollars annually.

At printpack alger 2014, the Algerian Minister of Industrial Development and Investment Promotion, Mr Amara Benyounes concluded: „printpack alger is extremely important for Algerian companies because it allows the exchange on technology and management topics and can lead to a great number of valuable partnerships. The future of the Algerian industry is based on partnerships with leading foreign companies. And don’t forget: Algeria is the largest market in North Africa and we are the most stable country in the region.“
Algeria has raised its imports of packaging machinery by 57.5 per cent in 2013, to 301.3 million US Dollars. Thus, the North African country has surpassed South Africa (273.4 million US $; +8.2%) as the most important sales market for packaging machines on the African continent. This is evident from statistics that VDMA-the German Engineering Association has recently published. On the third and fourth rank there are Egypt with packaging technology imports of 270.3 million US Dollars (+15.5%) and Nigeria with 241.7 million US Dollars (+ 17.2%). Main suppliers are Italy, Germany, France, Spain, China and Turkey, in that order.

In the fields of printing and paper technology, Algeria has increased its imports in 2013 by 16.6 per cent, to now 111.5 million US Dollars. Therefore, Algeria is the third-largest importer of printing and paper technology on the African continent, behind South Africa (199.9 million US $; -35.6%) and Egypt (154.1 million US $; -2.6%) and ahead of Nigeria (104.2 million US $; +32.2%). Germany, Italy, China, France, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Turkey, UK, Belgium, USA and Austria are the main suppliers, in that order.
Martin März, Managing Director with fairtrade, complements that according to forecasts of GTAI, hundreds of new production facilities are still to be established, leading to continuous economic growth for many years.

Due to this extraordinary growth dynamics and at the express request of the exhibitors, Algeria“s international trade show for printing-, paper- and packaging technology printpack alger will be held annually from 2015 on.

For the 5th edition of printpack alger, scheduled for 23 -25 February 2015, fairtrade“s German-Algerian organising team expects sharply increasing numbers of exhibitors.
